Every month, we will be asking the Highland Woods builders various questions about their homes and life in Highland Woods and Elgin. This month, we were curious which homes were offered that were most suitable for families with young children. Highland Woods is a great place for kids to grow up—it offers plenty of opportunities for recreation and fun. The community includes an Owners Club with a fitness center, water park, and tennis, basketball, and sand volleyball courts. Central Community Unit School District 301’s new Country Trails Elementary School is located within the community. So what about the homes? Check out some of the builder’s responses to our monthly question.
What is the best floorplan you offer for families with young children?
Our favorite floor plan for a family with young children is our Richmond model. This home boasts of over 3000 square feet with an affordable base price of $322,800. This home features a first floor study/playroom, large secondary bedrooms, tons of closet space, open (2-story) family room to kitchen with an oversized laundry room! The Richmond is a perfect fit for a family with young Children.

A popular floor plan we have is the “Andrew”. It has a large gourmet island kitchen, opening to a wide open family room with fireplace. Great size dining room connecting thru to the kitchen for entertaining, living room, and a study. Upstairs, large master suite with sitting room, luxury bath, three other bedrooms with bath access, and a possible 5th bedroom or second family room can be built above the first floor family room for more usuable space for kids, play room, study room, etc.. This home comes with a three car garage and a full deep pour basement with many options available.

Our Ana’s Cottage II Plan is my favorite for a family, it has all of the right rooms, plus a fantastic Mud/Hobby/Laundry Room on the first floor, and a second floor Laundry Option as well. There is also a great Bonus Room over the Family Room, that keeps the kids toys and noise, upstairs! You get all of this, plus a very open, and cool home, from $520,000 in Ridgeview at 3,600 SF!

Being a custom builder I find my layouts are improved by our clients. The last couple with young kids we built our model for changed the living room into a paneled library and then changed the rear den into a very large craft room with lots of folding and desktop space for home bills and projects, a laundry sink with a spray for those dirty shoes, boot box with hooks for all those coats and backpacks, a stacked laundry and extra closet space not only for coats but also brooms vac and cleaning supplies—a room designed the way people really live, big enough not to be messy.

My favorite plan for young families is the Savannah with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 3 car tandem garage and a full basement there is room to grow in this home. Great style and design with generous living areas make this home beautiful and practical all at the same time. The heart of the home features a large open kitchen with lots of cabinet space and a corner pantry all adjacent to the oversized family room. The 1st floor also includes a mudroom/laundry room and combined formal living and dining space. Upstairs you will find 3 secondary bedrooms with lots of closet space, separate hall bath, tech center and master suite which spans the entire width of the home and features his and hers walk in closets and a full private bath. With 2,500 sq.ft. of living space everyone in the family will have somewhere to call their own.
