At Highland Woods in Elgin, Illinois, we are celebrating the grand opening of two new fully furnished and professionally decorated models by William Ryan Homes. We decided to talk to the designers of the Jensen model about the work behind the beautiful design. We sat down with Leslie Frazier of Frazier Design Group to learn more about the decor in these amazing homes.
What is your decorating background?
After graduating from design school in Los Angeles, my first job was at a firm that decorated models. I learned the ins and outs of model home merchandising there and have been doing it ever since.
What is your favorite aspect of the model floorplan?
My favorite aspect of the model floorplan is the first floor Master Bedroom. It’s great for extended families and older couples looking who wish to age in place.
What is your favorite room in the model?
I really like both Master Bedrooms in the model—there is one Master on each floor. I love the ceiling detail, bedding, paint, window treatments, and art. I think they’re both really beautiful.
What was the basis of your inspiration for the interior design?
I wanted to create a memorable and sophisticated family home using furniture in a more traditional style with a current color scheme.
Which accent pieces do you find most interesting?
I love the large metal “balls” on the cocktail table in the Great Room. They draw the eye in and mimic the circular pattern on the pillows.
Tell us more about the most distinct finish, selection, or option included in the model.
I love the large island with seating for 4—it’s a great feature for the open plan kitchen. I think people can imagine their families gathering in this space.
Do you have any decorating tips for those looking to enhance their home?
Color can really help to enhance your home, and having a cohesive color scheme can make your home feel “finished.” Large accessories and series of items help to create “wow” moments.
